Hey,

Remember when learning used to be a boring activity?

The world is becoming more tolerant and inclusive. People are coming together to build safe spaces and support groups to help their members learn and grow.

In this article, I wrote about, peer to peer learning and how it helps our brain develop faster. while being part of a tribe.

Peer to peer learning and Community learning.

Learning is the ability to adapt to a particular concept or behavior through practice, training or experience.

Teaching is another great method of learning as it allows your brain to become familiar with that concept or idea, while sharing what you know to others who want to know. At the center for community learning and leadership San Jose State university community learning is a teaching method that promotes student learning through active participation in meaningful and planned service experiences in the community that are directly related to course content.

In learning we make use of all our senses, most especially the ones that involve Listening, communicating and understanding.

Speaking as a designer, the best way to get better is through consistency. Learning the tool isn’t enough, the more work you get done, the better you become. Getting more work done means solving actual problems. A Personal project can also solve problems if planned well.

While we strive to keep up with the latest trends and concepts, we find reasons to keep learning.

The human mind keeps evolving and the same goes for how we interact with our environment. Modern research has demonstrated that the brain continues to create new neural pathways and alter existing ones in order to adapt to new experiences, learn new information, and create new memories.

Brain plasticity, also known as neuroplasticity, is a term that refers to the brain’s ability to change and adapt as a result of experience. There are many benefits of brain neuroplasticity. It allows your brain to adapt and change, which helps promote:

  • The ability to learn new things
  • The ability to enhance your existing cognitive capabilities
  • Recovery from strokes and traumatic brain injuries
  • Strengthening areas if some functions are lost or decline
  • Improvements that can promote brain fitness

The pandemic has shown how humans can learn from each other while helping each other

Learning should not be a selfish quest for knowledge. Word on the street says “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”

Community learning or peer to peer learning like I like to call it allows individuals to become vulnerable with each other while supporting and looking out for each other.

According to the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, Learning Communities connect people, organizations, and systems that are eager to learn and work across boundaries, all the while holding members accountable to a common agenda, metrics, and outcomes. These communities enable participants to share results and learn from each other, thereby improving their ability to achieve rapid yet significant progress.

Learning environments that offer plenty of opportunities for focused attention, novelty, and challenge have been shown to stimulate positive changes in the brain. This is particularly important during childhood and adolescence, but enriching your environment can continue to provide brain rewards well into adulthood.

Things you can try include:

  • Learning a new language
  • Learning how to play an instrument
  • Traveling and exploring new places
  • Creating art and other creative pursuits
  • Reading

Joining a community is as simple as asking or requesting to be a part of a community that practices same interests that align with yours.

The number of participants usually don’t affect the quality of activities in a community. A small group allows every participant to be responsible for each other and also teaches accountability where projects and growth tasks are easily monitored and provided for with help when needed. When you finally decide to expand your view, Communities with larger audiences will connect with more people and resources to help you grow.

There are many advantages to large communities ranging from meeting community experts, Access to information and people. while also being a proud member.

The main goal of these communities is basically to help you grow, so if you find yourself stuck or confused on what path to take in your career. Apply to a community in your field and take part in their various activities and watch yourself bloom.
