Chapter 4

Days had gone by
And the virus was adapting, learning and getting stronger.

Covering a larger space of the earth
Consuming every living thing in its path,

Trees have been turned to dry sticks,

Green pastures have been turned to sand.

The view of the earth was now looking like the outcome of a massive nuclear attack,

Which in this case was stronger and more coordinated.

The only birds that could be seen flying were smart enough to take refuge in the green zone and the music camp.

There were no sights of animals nor their decayed body,

Cockroaches Had the whole earth to themselves,

They were like mutants who couldn’t be extinguished by the virus.

A reviving sound could be heard from a distance,

It was the sound of a v8 engine, a patrol car the music men used when going in search of anything they could scavenge, for the camp members

The team of 4 which consisted of
The driver : shomolu
The shotgun : Isabel
The twin : H and K

This was the same team that saved me from the virus alongside other patrol team

They were regarded as the rodrats
They knew how to navigate around and finding what no one else could go in search of

Anything the camp needs or are lacking
It is up to the rodrats to go in search of

On this particular day, the rodrats wanted to add more grounds to their map

So they kept moving paying attention to every detail that could mark as an observation point, so they could add to the map

They had enough fuel to last them back to camp and that was it

They knew they had to call it a day and return back to base

Not until the sight of various police vans moving in a convoy like they were moving things

The rodrats knew this wasn't police territory so they followed the convoy from a distance

And to their surprise

There was another green zone

This time around
It was more like a developed city

The city had been set up by the research institute to house it's staffs and other top level citizens who could afford to live there

The city was surrounded by very tall walls
Keeping out any unwanted and unauthorized personnel from getting in

Heavy security was also put in place to manage attacks from the outside

The rodrats knew they couldn't get in without getting noticed

It was time to head back to the camp

They had exhausted their fuel while following the police convoy

There wasn't enough fuel to last them through the journey back to camp

The rodrats knew going back to camp was a suicide mission and staying outside will only attract the virus

The only way they would survive was to get inside the city

The twin had a means of communication but it involves the use of the radio frequency

The police also uses frequency to communicate, they will only be calling an ambush to themselves

Shomolu was getting frustrated and claimed he could make it back to camp with the remaining fuel

Isabel and the twin knew how naive shomolu gets when he's scared

While trying to get shomolu to keep calm,

there was a clatter on the radio

A police patrol team was nearby

They had shifts to watch the outside gate for incoming threats

The rodrats knew this was their only way back to camp or inside the city, it was up to them to choose

Isabel had a plan

They were going to use the radio to call the patrol team for help

H and K weren't in on the plan

Shut up Isa, H said

Before he could finish

K had given him a nudge on the head

They were about to begin fighting when Isabel hushed them and pointed to the direction of the incoming patrol vehicle

The police patrol team only had 3 officers in it

Isabel pointed out on the patrol team using a hand sign and gave instructions to H and K with her hand sign
Again

Signalling and appointing them to each officer

The police patrol team were unaware of the incoming threat

The rodrats were experts in camouflage and stealth

Isabel stepped out from the hiding spot approaching the incoming patrol team while H and K flanked the police patrol team without them noticing

Isabel had stopped them to ask for help and passage into the city

One of the officers looked at Isabel and laughed

Asking her in pidgin

Where you dey come from, where you dey go?

Isabel could be seen crying while the police patrol team made fun of her

Then one of the police officers approached her and placed his hand on her shoulder while still laughing at her

H and K had already taken down the other two officers

On looking back the officer saw his colleagues on the floor and before he could turn back to look at Isabel

She knocked him out with a sharp uppercut to the jaw

Shomolu who had been afraid rushed out from his hiding spot

Took the guns from the police patrol vehicle

After which he then checked the fuel guage of the police patrol car

Luckily for them, they could split the fuel between both cars and get to back to the camp

Shomolu got enough fuel from the police patrol vehicle to fill theirs

H and K already stripped the officers off their uniform and were ready to hit the road

Shomolu and Isabel drove in their patrol car

While the twin drove the police patrol vehicle all dressed up in police uniforms
