Chapter 2
I was in the green zone, confused and trying my best not to loose it, I finally got a hold of myself, I had a plan
I could see a camp set out for the police officers and it would be easy for me to blend in if I got into their uniform.
My search didn’t last for long when I saw a spare uniform hanging on the thin line set to be for laundry purposes.
I snatched the uniform from the line and ran to the side of one of the tent and immediately got into the uniform which was torn and was oozing of vomit.
I didn't care about the smell
Now that I have my camouflage all set up, it was time to look for a place to rest, but something else caught my attention
It was a poster for the recruitment of officers for a search party to find my Fireboy
That was enough proof that Fireboy was still out there and hopefully safe from the virus
An officer saw me looking at the poster and asked if I was interested, i gave him a smile and told him, I would love to
He laughed at me and told me in pidgin
If you still like the small life wey you get, you better use your head make you no for loss
I laughed back and thanked him but still insisted if he knew where the recruitment was taken place
He looked at me again and said in pidgin again
E be like say to die dey hungry you,
He then pointed at a truck almost filled up with officers and told me those are the last officers going on search for the night and they may never return
I thanked him and told him I will return
He laughed harder this time and in a strange voice
Told me
Au revoir
Which means good bye in French
I was in a hurry to catch the last patrol and all I could do was wave back at the officer who now was going into his tent.
I finally got to the truck and asked if there was still space for me to join
Immediately one of the officers jumped down, gave me his weapon and told me to jump in
I did as he said and got in
The other officers in there all hissed at me and turned to face their weapons
A sign I took as
Mind your buisness
Suddenly
There was a tap on the bus by the officer in front of the truck signalling the driver to begin the journey and the truck began to move slowly
The music soldiers were not too far from the officers camp But far enough to separate the two parties from wrecking havoc at each other.
It was easy to spot them because they had very large speakers for walls which was used to play very loud music nonstop
This was a method used by the music men to keep the virus away
The more the truck moved away from the camp the more audible the music gets
We are approaching enemy territory, said one of the officers who looked more equipped and motivated than the other soldiers
He was the captain of this badge of the search party
I was still confused as to why people could still party despite the chaos going on
So I asked the officer beside, why there was so much music and again
They all hissed at me again
Finally one of them came close to me
It was the captain
He Asked for my name and rank
Before I could speak
He laughed and said nobody cares
He then proceed to tell me about the music soldiers and how they used music to keep the virus away
He spoke of them like he envied them and would join if given the opportunity
But he kept calling them rebels because they were always attacking the government and the police
It wasn't long enough we got alerted of possible threats from multiple directions,
It looked liked 3 tiny objects approaching from 3 different angles all leading to our truck
The captain immediately halted our truck and asked us to form a battle position
We were vulnerable to both the virus and the music soldiers at this point.
We were in the middle of nowhere, there was no sign of habitation whatsoever
It was an open field
All we had was our weapons
We had no choice but to stop and wait for them to come to us
The police officers immediately formed positions ready to attack
I was confused, I've never held such weapon before, so I hid under the truck
The music from the incoming trucks were now getting more audible we knew they were getting closer
While our attention was drawn to the incoming truck
There was a sudden wave of movement it was something i had seen before
It was the virus
But this time it acted like it had a mind of its own or being intelligently controlled it came sweeping from the side of a hill very close to where we took cover
It was an ambush
It was the virus
It began to approach us
Some of the officers began to run back from where we came from which at this point was a useless thing to do.
The captain ordered the soldiers to stay still but the fear in them wouldn't
I was now too scared to move
This is it
I said to myself, I closed my eyes and prepared for the worst to come
I could hear the other soldiers been consumed by the virus
And all I could do was wait there patiently for the virus to come for me
the music kept getting louder and I was forced to open my eyes eventually
The virus was gone and all that was in front of me were
People who ordinarily would be labelled as outcasts in the real world
They had tattoos and all sorts of clothing on
Which mostly comprised of music prints and punk styles
They were exchanging greetings with the captain
Did they defeat the virus, are they the virus
I said to myself
I threw my weapon to the side and I put my hands up telling them I am not an officer and I could explain
Without hearing what I had to say, I got shot by the captain
To be continued.....
